THE Valentinian DYNASTY
the Eastern AND Western HALFS OF THE EMPIRE
Valentinian I was Roman emperor from 364 to 375. Upon becoming emperor he made his brother Valens his co-emperor, giving him rule of the eastern provinces while Valentinian retained the west. Valentinianic Dynasty of four emperors, ruled the Western Roman Empire from 364 to 392 and the Eastern Roman Empire from 364 to 378. The dynasty was related to the Theodosian dynasty by the marriage of Valentinian I's daughter. After the battle of Adrianopel, Gratian and Valentinian II appointed their brother-in-law Theodosius as new emperor in the east. He founded the Theodosian Dynasty.

RULE 5YEARS 384 AD – 387 AD
In 383 as commander of Britain, he usurped the throne against emperor Gratian; and through negotiation with emperor Theodosius I the following year he was made emperor in Britannia and Gaul – while Gratian's brother Valentinian II retained Italy, Pannonia, Hispania, and Africa. In 387 Maximus' ambitions led him to invade Italy, resulting in his defeat by Theodosius I at the Battle of the Save in 388. In the view of some historians his death marked the end of direct imperial presence in Northern Gaul and Britain
Maximus surrendered in Aquileia, and although he pleaded for mercy was executed

Unclear; possibly murdered or committed suicide Valentinian II was found hanged in his residence in Vienne .
