WARS BC - AD

Roman armies were not invincible, despite their formidable reputation and host of victories,
Romans incompetents
‪‬ who led Roman armies into many catastrophic defeats.
Nevertheless, it was generally the fate of even the greatest of Rome's enemies,
such as Pyrrhus and Hannibal, to win the battle but lose the war, the loss of a large army almost to the man of Varus'
famous defeat at the hands of the Germanic leader Arminius in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD
